He put his name on a list and kept coming in on a regular basis to see if the book has been released yet. The old man turned the book over and pointed to "Year of Locust" on the inside cover and said "I'm here to buy this one today." I sadly had to disappoint him and tell him that book is not yet available. Me being new started panicking and fearing that I have to deal with an extremely difficult customer after I recommended a book to him that I promised was exceptionally good. Two days later just after opening time he came into the store and threw the book on the counter. I suggested the book and he told me while I rang it up that if this disappoints him he is going to come back the next day and "tell me like it is". This time around we have covered 55,000 ha across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh so far, says Gurjar. During that time we covered an area of 4,34,088 ha. He got handed over to the new guy (which is me) due to his rudeness/grumpiness. This is the second round of locust swarms invading the country, the first occurring between December 2019 and February of this year. I used to work in a bookshop and one of the benefits was a HUGE discount. I've been looking forward to this book since 2017. I doubt I could even find a copy at any of our local public libraries. I guess those folks were the lucky few who purchased before the book got pulled from further publication and off the shelves. What I still can't figure out is how Goodreads and other reading web sites have a few thousand reviews of The Year of the Locust. In any case, we'll most likely never know. Hayes' film successes, I imagine this was also the fate of the I Am Pilgrim movie. Hayes, himself) have decided the timing isn't right, nor may it be in the future. I, too, have looked forward to this book for a very long time because I enjoyed I Am Pilgrim so much.
